Owie!

I got an owie today. I burned the palm and thumb of my left hand. It hurt pretty bad, but is now feeling a bit better. I had ice on it for most of the day, but haven't had any on it since about 7:30. Here's what happened:

I had just made some mac n' cheese (the box kind). I moved the pot from the front burner to the back burner and forgot to turn off the front burner. I sat down and ate my food and went back to get seconds. I noticed the burner still on, so I turned it off. What I didn't notice was that the handle of the pot had been sitting over the hot burner the whole time, so all the heat that came off of it went straight to the handle (mind you, my pots are all metal and do not have an insulated handle). Well, I wanted seconds, so I grabbed the pot handle and it took a few seconds for the nerves in my hand to scream at my brain that it was burning. Once that message got to my brain, my brain didn't want me to set the pot on the counter and burn the counter, but also didn't want me to set the pot back on the hot burner, so I held on to the pot for longer than a normal person who is getting burned should have. I eventually decided to screw the counter and put the pot down. Before getting my hand under cold water, I made sure to find a pot holder and move the pot onto the stove so I wouldn't burn the counter. I ran some cold water over my hand and eventually got a bag of ice to hold on to. I then used my pot holder and moved the pot to the sink and when I put it down I noticed that there was actually a thin layer of skin on the handle of the pot. Pretty gross! A little part of the burn started to blister immediately (nothing too bad), but it definitely put a hamper on my plans to get anything done today. I found the hardest thing to do was to put my hair in a ponytail, because you really do need 2 hands for that.

Well, it's late but I thought everyone should hear my sob story for the day. I am going to bed and hopefully the burning sensation will subside by tomorrow so I can do some stuff.
